The High Commission of India, London is happy to invite you to the second edition of the India-UK SME Conference and Business Meet at the Henry Ford College , Loughborough University on 13th October 2011. The focus of this year’s conference will be collaboration in engineering and advanced manufacturing technology. We are expecting over 60 businessmen from India to take part in this conference. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the National Small Industries Corporation of India (NSIC), the EEPC India, the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mumbai and other industry organizations in India will be leading delegations to this important conference. The first list of 36 participating Indian companies is attached. We are awaiting confirmation from many other companies and a consolidated list will be sent to you shortly. The High Commission had conducted a survey of the Manufacturing SMEs in the UK Midlands in May 2010 by a professional agency to produce a database of the UK companies that have been doing business with India in order to promote trade between our two countries. The survey discovered that over 2,000 SMEs in the UK Midlands were/are doing business or would like to do business with India . In July 2010, Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. David Cameron MP and Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh took a joint decision in New Delhi to double the bilateral trade between the two countries in five years. In accordance with this decision and encouraged by the findings of the SME Survey, the High Commission organized an India-UK Manufacturing SMEs Conference and Buyer-Seller Meet at the Birmingham City Council on 11th November 2010. This conference was a big success in which 145 UK businessmen and 45 companies from India had participated. On general demand by the participants at this conference to have the SME conference as a regular platform for interaction, the High Commission decided to organize it as an annual event and the decision was announced at the Birmingham conference.
